A Progressive Warrior Queen-Isn't That an Oxymoron?


In case you don't know the story of Boadicea (Boudicca), in a nutshell it goes like this.

Boadicea's tribe, the Iceni, lived peacefully as a client tribe under Roman rule. After her husband's death corrupt Roman officials reneged on the agreement that left the Iceni in peace. When Boadicea, still the leader of her tribe, went to protest this, she was flogged and her daughters were raped before her eyes.

She returned to her tribe and raised a rebellion against the Romans that was short lived, brutal, and ended in her death.

Understand, I'm not looking to raze Colchester, or leave piles of bodies behind me. However, the Radical Right Religionists and the Corporate sponsors of the Chattel Society have declared war on us who are "others".

I had a whole thing in mind for this entry. Calling Congressman James Sensenbrenner, Jr the Dishonorable Representative from Petulance and other (I hoped) nifty turns of phrase.

Yanno, it was a Thing.

But the ultimately the reality speaks for itself, so I'm linking to Randi Rhodes' page . Randi's a little bit like Chicken Little-the Political Sky is always falling, so I can't listen to her show every day. But sometimes, she's right, and the sky of democracy is falling, and we gotta step up with a patch kit.

Randi not only has a link to the footage of Il Duce Senseless's malevolent actions to prevent open discussion of the weaknesses in the Patriot Act (which is up for renewal) but also interviews with the Democratic members of the committee who were holding testimony in accordance with House rules and were treated like serfs (along with the witnesses who had come so far to speak their piece before Congress).

And there will be retribution from the House Republican Leadership, make no mistake. They cannot win an open debate, so they scheme to shut all discussion they don't approve of down.

Time to ROAR, patriots.

Let Reps Jackson Lee, Wasserman Schultz, and Nadler know you support their efforts and give Representative Jimmie the Gasbag a few choice words to remind him what a democracy really is.

They're fighting for us. We need to fight for them.
