A Progressive Warrior Queen-Isn't That an Oxymoron?

In case you don't know the story of Boadicea (Boudicca), in a nutshell it goes like this.

Boadicea's tribe, the Iceni, lived peacefully as a client tribe under Roman rule. After her husband's death corrupt Roman officials reneged on the agreement that left the Iceni in peace. When Boadicea, still the leader of her tribe, went to protest this, she was flogged and her daughters were raped before her eyes.

She returned to her tribe and raised a rebellion against the Romans that was short lived, brutal, and ended in her death.

Understand, I'm not looking to raze Colchester, or leave piles of bodies behind me. However, the Radical Right Religionists and the Corporate sponsors of the Chattel Society have declared war on us who are "others".

I say we fight back.  Right now, I'm fighting back primarily at Texas Kaos. Please come join me.

So Appalling It's Hard to Know Where to Begin

posted Thursday, 31 March 2005

From the Petoskey News-Review in NW Michigan:
Norm Olson, senior adviser to the Michigan militia and pastor of a strong right-to-life church in Wolverine, said Tuesday he had put together an unarmed coalition of state militias that were prepared to storm the Florida hospice where Terri Schiavo has been left to die, and take her to a safe house.

Olson said he needed only the OK from Schiavo's father, Robert Schindler, either directly or through his attorney David Gibbs, to put the plan, called "Operation Resurrection," into action on Sunday.

But Olson said Gibbs contacted the FBI instead of passing his message on to Schindler
Thank heaven and the American Bar Association for that.

Even more chilling later in the article:
"We would have overwhelmed the local law enforcement," Olson said, adding the militias would not have been armed.

Olson said the other reason for the plan was to put Florida Republican Gov. Jeb Bush, the brother of the U.S. president, on the spot.

"He would have had to send in state police or the National Guard to turn us away," Olson said. "None of us believe that he is helpless. He is the chief officer of the state and has the power of executive clemency.(Jeb) Bush was a liar when he said he couldn't do it. He knows his office has to represent the people. And judges have to know they are not infallible. All this was thwarted by Gibbs."
Why do I have the distinct feeling Gibbs just had a target painted on his back?

These militias in many western and midwestern states aren't talked about much anymore in the RWCM, but as the above demonstrates, they're still plenty dangerous. Still willing to put themselves above the law and not particular about who might get hurt or killed in the process.

Domestic terrorism is as much a scourge of freedom as any Al Quaeda threat. And in some cases, is actively seeking an alliance.

Good post. I just put in a plug for it over at Steve's on the Shiavo thread.
