A Progressive Warrior Queen-Isn't That an Oxymoron?

In case you don't know the story of Boadicea (Boudicca), in a nutshell it goes like this.

Boadicea's tribe, the Iceni, lived peacefully as a client tribe under Roman rule. After her husband's death corrupt Roman officials reneged on the agreement that left the Iceni in peace. When Boadicea, still the leader of her tribe, went to protest this, she was flogged and her daughters were raped before her eyes.

She returned to her tribe and raised a rebellion against the Romans that was short lived, brutal, and ended in her death.

Understand, I'm not looking to raze Colchester, or leave piles of bodies behind me. However, the Radical Right Religionists and the Corporate sponsors of the Chattel Society have declared war on us who are "others".

I say we fight back.  Right now, I'm fighting back primarily at Texas Kaos. Please come join me.

Podcast Fridays:Whedonverse Edition, Part I

posted Friday, 20 June 2008
jossIn honor of the fundraising campaign, Can't Stop the Serenity celebrating one of my favorite writers, Joss Whedon, to the benefit of Equality Now, this week, we'll be talking about those who talk about all things Joss. Be sure to check out the dates of CStS in your area BeckyH was kind enough to compile, a follow me on the flip for a dip in the Whedonverse.
My first discovery and still favorite has to be The Signal. Intelligent and rollicking fun, it includes features like The Big Damn Test Kitchen, recreating dishes seen in Firefly or Serenity, news and reviews, and a little slice of fan fic in a segment called Badger's World that rarely fails to crack me up.
I've more recently also started downloading Firefly Talk (yes, I'm a Browncoat. Something about fighting through despair to whatever slim hope you can hoard speaks right to my soul. Go figure.) Firefly Talk focuses on news, critiques, and speculation. So far, I've been enjoying it tremendously, though I've got a lot of archived episodes to get through.
A newer addition to the podcasting Whedonverse casts a net wider than Serenity's wake* is Between the Lines Studios monthly roundtable, Let's Talk Joss. Lively discussions about the themes Joss mines across his many projects.

If you need any more inspiration to dive in, I'll let Joss himself explain he does what he does so very well.

Next week, we'll take a look at fans who take it one step further, and develop their own tales in the 'verse-fan fic audio dramas. So, what are you listening to lately?

*If you don't get that reference I instruct you to RUN, not walk to your local video outlet to get the DVDs of Firefly and Serenity. You've got a week to catch up...
